Yes, you heard that correctly. Semiautomatic rifles, as well as handguns, have been legalized for hunting in Pennsylvania. However, before you run out to the woods right now, you should know that the new law does not go into effect until next hunting season, in 2017.
The bill was signed by Governor Wolf, and it was co-sponsored by state senator Scott Hutchinson.
I am pleased that this measure is now law in Pennsylvania. I’ve heard from numerous sportsmen and women who would like to use the same semiautomatic rifles for hunting that they practice with at the firing range, but Pennsylvania is one of the few states that [had disallowed] these firearms for hunting of any kind.
Pennsylvania is not the first state to legalize hunting with semi-auto rifles though. They join the list as the 49th state.
