If you want to know what’s wrong with the liberal states in America today, look no further than the failed-state of California.

The state of California has found itself in the middle of a state-level battle over their money problems. They can’t seem to afford all of the pricey boondoggles that their liberal legislators keep forcing on to their taxpayers, but they somehow found the scratch to fund an anti-gun “research study.”

This year California legislators passed the largest gas tax increase in decades, a move which will hit the middle class the hardest. When middle class taxpayers got upset, Gov. Brown hit back, calling them “freeloaders” and invoking the “everyone has to pitch in for society!” talking points.

Maybe they’d have more money if they weren’t spending it on things people don’t rely on the government to provide.

One thing legislators have found the money for is anti-gun research. They call it “gun violence research,” but make no mistake, there is only one acceptable outcome for the research. During the 2016 legislative session lawmakers approved a bill creating the “University of California Firearms Violence Research Center,” allotting $5 million over five years to establish the center and fund operations.

The LA Times is fine with the government using tax payer dollars on the research, saying that the state was doing the research because the federal government wasn’t. The Times even had the audacity to claim that there was “little research” being done in the area of “gun violence.” Which is nonsense, but the LA Times is saying it anyway…

The center continues a California tradition of stepping into policy vacuums resulting from federal actions or inaction.

So instead of spending their money on real problems in California, the state legislators have decided to waste the money they already have and then raise taxes again on the middle class workers who are hurting the most. To make matters worse they then pass laws that obviously undercut the rights and privacy of their conservative citizens.

As Jennifer Van Laar astutely observes:
