A roofing company in Castle Rock, Colorado, are seeking employees ASAP. As an incentive, they are offering a free gun as part of their benefit package.

The owner of Weatherproof Roofing hopes the incentive of free firepower will attract potential employees. The prize is an AR-15, which can cost $600 to thousands of dollars, according to KDVR.

James Webb, the Weatherproof Roofing owner stated, “We have four sales positions that we’ve got to get filled ASAP.” They are in the middle of their busy season, simply do not have enough people to keep up. This is where their, “Get a job, get a gun” campaign comes into play.

That’s A good deal for anybody up there

  • tdg54

Little do the candidates know, they’ll need these weapons while they work. The neighborhoods are rough.

  • The Dutchman

Don’t think I want them on my roof. Probably like all of the big city roofers they hire all illegals!

    • texan61

why would anyone who could get welfare want to work. reason Obama is bringing in illegals to do the work, and then can get them on welfare and get more voters in from south of the border

      • Eric

A lot of these alien laborers know the difference between welfare bucks and the money paid for honest work, hands down. Welfare can’t compete with full-time dollars. Most of these people are not afraid of work and would rather earn their incomes.

      Let’s think about this logically.
A fully outfitted AR-15 can cost as much as $9500.
Minimum wage is $10 per hour = $400 per week
      $9500/$10= 950 hours.
Award the new hires a rifle at $5 per hour as compensation and $5 cash per hour as compensation = $10 per hour. The employer gets the new hire for 1900 hours for the cost of the retail cost of the rifle and half the minimum wage in cash.
      This is a brilliant idea.

      • The Dutchman

So you support this company giving these criminal illegals an AR Eh!

        • Cadfael

Last time I checked what you propose here would be an illegal straw purchase! They don’t give anyone “a gun”. First of an AR15 is a semi-automatic rifle, meaning they have to pull the trigger for each round. Second, they are giving their employees the money to buy an AR15 (likely $600) themselves; that means they have to go to a gun store, fill out the paperwork, show their CO driver’s license and their SSN, pay the background check fee, and they have to wait until the NICS comes back and says they are cleared to purchase the rifle. No fantasy world here where it is as it should be according to our Constitution but unfortunately our politicians don’t understand “shall not be infringed!” Just as they don’t seem to understand that to go to jail for disclosing classified information no “proof of intent” is required.

          • Eric

Good response Cadfael, but let’s also include the extreme lack of knowledge too many loudmouth know-it all’s seem to have where licensure and ownership requirements of a firearm are concerned. Contrary to popular leftist beliefs, you cannot buy a firearm on the internet unless it’s delivered to a licensed FFL who won’t give it to you unless you’ve passed the requirements for ownership. Nor can you walk into a “gun show” and do the same thing. Between the liberal invasion of public education in this country, and the fact that the MSM in this country is State controlled, educating people in this country to what the realities of gun ownership really include is a big job. When you add in all those people who think they know what’s happening, but cannot possibly know what they think they know, we end up with a guy like “The Dutchman” who needs to be educated!

        • Michael E Heis

First off read the story moron, they are SALES positions not roofers! Secondly a cash signing bonus is not uncommon in business, of course you wouldn’t know that from all your burger flipping jobs.

          • The Dutchman

Well ultra moron, I retired from 26 years Military service and then 25 years as an independent general contractor here in Colorado and am way to familiar with the crap you city boys pull. I have spent a lot of time in the Springs and Pueblo and have never seen roofers that spoke fluent English.
I can’t believe the number of people that let you morons put illegals on their property. Sell your sick crap to someone else MORON!

          • The Dutchman

Oh and I also would never rip people off by selling a shingle roof. The only thing I ever dealt with was ABC steel roofing.

      • Eric

I have NEVER invested $9500, or anywhere near that, for a good AR, and I know what I’m talking about. A $2500 investment in a good rifle, which includes a good scope, is much more realistic.

    • Eric

If that benefit requires proper training and licensure then I can’t see any problem at all. If you’re illegal, you can’t get a license. That’s the law, and that eliminates illegals.

  • texan61

I like that , give a good modern musket as incentive to sign on. The AR is todays musket of 1776.
I would probably hire that roofing company to do my roof.

  • jerry young

So when do they get the gun? do they have to work so many hours first? what if they take the job but can’t sell? do they have to turn in the gun? are they supposed to carry it with them? so many questions here! there are ways around the straw purchase law that legally allows you to give a gun you just cannot purchase or pay for it, you give the recipient a gift card covering the cost of the gun!

    • Eric

You can bet that that company isn’t just giving away anything. If these guys can’t prove they’re worth a $800 rifle, believe me, they won’t get that new AR.

  • akoby

Caedfel assumes that this incentive is going to be a straw purchase. Why, because that is what he/she would do??? If the company is publicizing this, then the owner is going to follow any applicable CO law regarding the ownership of said gun. Also, I like the hypocritical assumptions of some of the respondents. “Oh if they are roofers they must be illegals”, or “No they are not illegals because these are sales positions, not roofing positions”, I’m hoping these comments came from Democrat trolls on the site and not conservatives. My dad owned a roofing company all his life. He employed his family members, brothers, brothers-in-law, nephews, and cousins. Not one illegal amongst them. And all the younger boys learned the value of hard work and went on to be productive members of society.

    • Eric

No “akoby”, he’s responding to what “Dutchman” is saying, which would be a straw purchase. Read the post that he’s responding to. He’s actually right on this one.

    • Cadfael

If you would have read my post instead of glancing and commenting without having read all of it, you would have seen that I defended the roofing company owner and explained that if, as the Dutchman had automatically assumed, the guns had been given the owner would have been arrested for “straw purchasing.” HOWEVER, he wasn’t because he gave his employees money towards the purchase of a gun – which is perfectly legal! Read and comprehend before commenting! We are on the same sheet of music and have enough to do trying to educate the fiberals and keep them honest; we don’t need to attack each other.

    • akoby

So Cadfael, I did not just “glance” over your comment. Ands after rereading it many times I still come away with the same take away that I got when reading it the first time. However, after reading your reply to me. I see what point you were trying to make. So what we both learn from this is that it is easy to misinterpret the comments when we have only written words and cannot listen to the voice of the person as well. So, if I upset you, I apologize, I, also, am not looking to pit pro-second amendment people against each other.

  • Eric

What a great idea! If more contractors adopted this mindset we’d likely see a countrywide increase in home improvement projects!
