In the wake of the Tragedy in Las Vegas, the Left is Working Overtime to Ban our Guns and Strip Us of our Rights. Don’t Let Them Do It. Find Out How You Can Fight Back by Clicking Here.
On Tuesday, the Daily Wire published a trio of important articles each aimed, in some form or fashion, at the left’s monolithic call for more gun control in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting.
The first was by Joseph Curl and it reminded us all that for all the death and destruction from the mass shooting in Vegas, the violence was actually dwarfed by the monthly casualty list in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago, or Chi-raq as some locals call it, routinely sees upwards of 60 or more gun-related deaths each month. In June, there were 84 such deaths!
So is the answer for Chicago, a city run by Democrats in a state dominated by a Democrat legislature, more gun control? Well, probably not. Chicago already has some of the most draconian gun laws in the nation and yet… the violent crime rate and the gun crime rate are not dropping accordingly.
So far in Chicago, where Rahm Emanuel, former chief of staff for Barack Obama, is mayor, there have been 519 murders this year. And there’s still a quarter of the year to go. But the numbers get crazy when totaling “gun violence” victims: In 2015, 2,988 people were victims of gun violence, according to records kept by The Chicago Tribune.
That number soared in 2016. There were 4,368 shooting victims last year, the Tribune reported.
Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, right up there with New York and Los Angeles (lawmakers there bristle when anyone says they have the “most restrictive” in the country, but everyone agrees Chicago’s gun laws are at least “quite restrictive”).
The Daily Wire’s Editor in Chief, Ben Shapiro, was even more direct as he outlined 5 reasons that the media focuses their gun control efforts on mass shootings.
1. Mass Shootings Cannot Be Confined By Location.
2. The Type Of Gun In Mass Shootings Differs Radically From Gun Homicides Overall.
3. The Evidence For Gun Control Is Strongest On Mass Shootings.
4. The Bulk Of Gun-Related Deaths In America Are Suicides.
5. Mass Shootings Are Often Perpetrated By The Mentally Ill.
Focusing on mass shootings makes some sense because they are the most visible shootings; because they don’t specifically create individual moral culpability thanks to mental illness concerns; because their small sample size allows politicians to attribute any sort of decline to changes in public policy. But it’s a mistake to make policy for precisely those reasons.
Basically, as Shapiro explains the argument for gun control is not very sound logically or based on the evidence. However, the argument becomes most sound when focusing on mass shootings, but mass shootings make up a tiny percentage of the gun violence in America. So when these events occur, the media must immediately pick up the gun control ball and run with all their might… so as not to waste their perfect opportunity.
Finally, the Daily Wire’s Hank Berrien brings the ultimate reality check for the left as he explains what most Americans actually believe about guns and gun violence.
In the wake of the Las Vegas shooting, shares in America’s two leading gun manufacturers, which had seen a decline after President Trump was elected, swung sharply upward. Shares in American Outdoor Brands, formerly Smith & Wesson firearms, jumped 7% as its stock price rose 3%; shares in Sturm, Ruger & Co. rose 6% as its stock price rose over 2%. Additionally, ammunition manufacturer Vista Outdoors Inc. saw its stock price rise over 2%.
Yep. Gun manufacturer stock prices actually ROSE in the immediate aftermath of the attack because investors understand that most Americans will respond to the situation by purchasing MORE guns. Americans believe in the 2nd Amendment, we believe that we should all have the right to defend ourselves, and we don’t believe that it’s the government’s job to keep us safe in every situation.
So, it’d be nice if you folks on the left would take your gun control laws and your anti-freedom agenda and stuff it.
We’ll keep the 2nd Amendment, thank you very much.
