Bad things happen, it’s just an unfortunate fact of life. Many in the prepper community are intensely focused on preparing for a coming natural disaster or another major event which will change life as we know it. Preppers want to be ready to provide for and if need be defend, their family and loved ones when the world is in chaos. But what if I told you there are obvious dangers that even most preppers haven’t thought about?
While protecting yourself and your family from TEOTWAWKI is in itself is a notable goal, there are some everyday emergencies you didn’t know you have to prep for that are even more likely to occur. The only way to prepare for these dangerous situations is to purposefully seek out knowledge and experience about each one in advance. So, first, learn what to do to effectively handle these everyday emergencies in “normal” times. Consider which of these could also happen in a grid down situation and what would change as far as treatment resources. Make sure you prepare now so you can effectively treat these issues when professional medical help may be unavailable.
Chronic health problems that you’re aware of and being treated for may require timely medication, or you could end up in a crisis. If you’re currently being treated for a chronic health problem, make sure you know what to do if you miss a dose, or things go wrong fast.
Also, make sure you have extra doses of your vital medication on-hand in case you are delayed getting back home. Every person who currently has chronic health problems, at some point in their life, experienced a first-time flare-up that they weren’t ready for. So, just because you don’t have any health problems right now, doesn’t mean you or one of your loved ones won’t experience them in the future. Trust me, these kinds of everyday emergencies can be scary if you aren’t prepared to handle them quickly.
A few of the health issues that come on quickly and can be fatal if untreated are:
- Asthma Attack
- Severe hypoglycemia
- Heart Attack
- Allergic Reaction
- Alcohol Poisoning
- Epileptic Seizures
Accidents by nature are unpredictable and can occur when you’re walking on your own two feet down the street, through the backyard, or even in your home or office. Accidents aren’t always preventable either which is why you need to know what to when an accident happens. Any time you add high speed or other factors to your mode of travel, you increase the risk of something serious going wrong.
Below are just a few of the moving vehicle accidents that can create everyday emergencies you didn’t know you have to prep for:
Everyone likes to have fun, and we all know that exercise and being outdoors is so good for us most of the time. But even seemingly tame recreational activities are not without risks. Give yourself and your family and friends the confidence to have fun knowing that you are prepared with your go bag to handle whatever everyday emergency might come up and get everyone back home safely.
- Skydiving or Cliff/Waterfall Diving
- Bunge Jumping/Zip Lines
Household or Workplace Accidents
We spend the majority of our daily time between home and work, right? So, it should come as no surprise that even though you think of your home or office as relatively safe, it’s often not at all. Below are some common everyday emergencies that often happen at home or work that you didn’t know you have to prep for:
- Serious Falls
- Severe Lacerations
- Lawn Mower/Tractor
- Spider Bite/Bee Sting
- Burns (steam, chemicals, hot machines)
- Unexpected Fire at home or work
Job Layoff or Long-Term Unemployment
When things are going along great, your bills are paid, and your paycheck comes in regularly, it’s easy to forget about what could happen if you suddenly lose your job due to layoff or injury. The retail industry is just one of the areas that have been hard hit recently. Stores like Gander Mountain, Sears, Walmart, and several others, simply closing down multiple locations. My guess is few of the employees in those stores knew what was coming in time to do anything about it.
Make sure you are knowledgeable and prepared for as many of these dangerous situations as possible to crop up at any point. Preparing for these everyday emergencies is critical to your survival not just during normal times but also during any natural disaster or TEOTWAWKI event that may hit your area.
