The Maxim 9 from SilencerCo is a revelation in the personal firearm marketplace.

It is the world’s first fully integrated suppressed handgun and it is marvelous.

The Maxim® 9 is the world’s first integrally suppressed 9mm handgun that is holster-able and hearing safe with all types of 9mm ammunition. Shipped in its full-length configuration, the Maxim 9 comes with everything the user needs to shorten the overall length by more than 1”; in the short configuration, the Maxim 9 remains hearing safe with subsonic ammunition.

Regardless of which configuration you use, the Maxim 9 represents one of the greatest strides made in both pistol and suppressor technology. No more choosing between keeping your pistol as short as possible and enduring deafening sound or adding a silencer and dealing with the added length and weight. Now, you can have the best of all worlds with the Maxim 9.

To be clear, the gun does look odd. Because it integrates the suppressor, it is longer and a bit bulkier than the average handgun you’re used to seeing. It’s a bit boxy in the front, and looks like it might be a little forward-heavy… but looks can be deceiving as the NRA’s Colion Noir explained when he ran the gun through its paces. (More on that in a moment.)

Here’s the bottom line, the Maxim 9 is a solid firearm that is fun to shoot and safe on your ears. You won’t be carrying it concealed anytime soon, because it’s just too oddly shaped… but I’d be willing to be that this will soon be the nightstand gun of choice for most folks looking for some home protection. It’s the perfect bedside gun because being forced to use it won’t mean sacrificing your hearing.

Check out the reviews from Colion Noir and see if you don’t agree.
