Many conservatives, patriots and Second Amendment supporters have felt that the federal form 4473 that is filled out with every gun purchase was nothing more than a federal gun registration. You legally buy a firearm of any kind from a licensed dealer and the federal government will have a record of your purchase and may someday come knocking on your door.

In a move not totally unexpected, a pair of anti-gun Democrats, one from Illinois, have introduced a bill calling for the establishment of a national gun licensing system. The bill not only wants to license every firearm legally purchased from a dealer, but EVERY exchange of ownership of a firearm, as well.

(Washington Examiner) – Two House Democrats on Wednesday introduced legislation that would set up a federal firearms licensing system, and all gun sales and transfers to be registered on this system.

Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., introduced the bill after a recent wave of school shootings, but he has introduced similar bills in past congresses.

The Blair Holt Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act would prohibit unlicensed gun ownership, and would require a valid firearms license for transferring and receiving guns. It would require universal background checks for all sales and transfers of guns, and would make it easier for state and federal officials to trace guns…

With this bill, if a father or grandfather gifted a son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter a hunting rifle or shotgun, the gun would have to be re-licensed to the receiver. If a husband buys a small handgun for his wife, who holds a concealed carry license, the handgun would have to be re-licensed to the wife. Why don’t they call it what it really is – federal gun registration – a step that has led to total gun confiscation in a number of other countries.
