How many times have you seen where people in charge react to the actions of one individual or just a very few individuals? The reaction of those in charge often exhibit an emotional knee-jerk response that results in new rules, regulations or laws that are ill-conceived and ill-thought out. While meant to punish the one or the few, the reaction ends up punishing the many, stripping them of privileges or rights.
I’ve seen it in schools, the work place and now we are witnessing it in state and national politics. One place I worked at, with over 100 employees banned all coffee from the workplace because just one individual abused the system. Only after those who made the rules realized that it impacted them also, did they reverse their ill-thought out decision.
This is the same thing that is driving the current push for more gun control and those behind it are reacting out of raw emotions and ignorance.
(Great American Politics) – After last week’s shooting at the high school in Parkland, Florida, high school students in Florida and elsewhere are filling the spotlight of the mainstream media as they launch a crusade to push for more gun control laws.
I feel for these students and what they have gone through. I’ve looked down the barrel of a loaded gun that was in the hands of someone who was not stable at the time and I thought I was about to die, so, I understand their fear, but I don’t understand their knee jerk emotional reactions that demonstrate their ignorance on the entire issue and what they are demanding.
Students from the school in Florida where the shooting took place, are planning to travel to the state capitol to speak with state legislators. Other high school students held a lie-in in front of the White House and many plan more protests in the near future.
A number of these students are calling for a ban on all assault weapons as well as on all automatic and semi-automatic guns. This call or demand shows how little they really know about what they are talking about and that they are acting on emotion, not intelligence…
The really scary part of this is that there is a better chance now of stricter gun control laws being passed in the wake of the Florida school shooting than when Democrats controlled the House, Senate and White House. Far too many people, including those in Washington, are thinking from their hearts instead of their heads, and the rest of us will be punished because of it.
