The left is insistent that Americans are turning against the 2nd Amendment in droves these days, yet, there is really no evidence for them to back up their tough talk.

The 2nd Amendment isn’t just some random bit of bureaucratic accessory, and there is a reason why it’s #2 on a list of the most important freedoms ever bestowed upon man by his government.  Undoubtedly, the import of the right to bear arms comes from the fact that this freedom is the insurance policy by which all other rights are protected.

Without a 2nd Amendment, the government would be allowed to run amok, quashing rebellions, revolutions, and rights any time in which they please.  (Just ask the Iranians about that).

Now, given the perceived rise in American mass shootings as of late, and the proximity to the grandaddy of them all, the Las Vegas SHOT Show was prepared to deal with a mass of leftist protesters who they believed could descend upon them this week in Sin City.

The reality of the situation was far different.

“A lone gun control activist showed up to protest the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s SHOT Show and Breitbart News was able to ask him some questions.

“On January 24 he was holding a sign with a list of mass attacks on it. The sign listed Columbine, Virginia Tech, Ford Hood, Aurora, San Bernardino, Pulse Nightclub, Las Vegas, and the church in Sutherland Springs, amongst others. It bore the caption, ‘If not now, when?’

“The protester said he was there because Congress refused to act. We asked him to name a law Congress could pass to stop criminals from misusing guns. He said more than one law is required, but demurred when asked to name just one with which we could start.

“He asked us to consider Europe, suggesting that the adoption of numerous gun laws and outright gun bans is the way to go. We responded by asking him how many people were killed in the armed attack in Paris on November 13, 2015. (One hundred thirty innocents were killed.)”

We have to hand it to this lone protester for exercising his First Amendment rights, but the entire scene was more than a little pathetic.

Americans understand the dangers of the modern world in a way that other nationalities cannot, seeing as we have been sauntering around the world with a target on our back for centuries.  Our freedoms have inspired not only powerful displays of affection from around the globe, but anger and resentment as well.  The protection of these sometimes divisive freedoms is of paramount importance, and the 2nd Amendment is truly the only path to successfully ensuring this.
