Earlier this year, many patriotic and law-abiding Americans were saddened when they heard that a Michigan grandfather was forced to give up his Second Amendment in order to legally become the foster parent for his grandson. Michigan’s liberal Democrats had passed a law imposing strict rules on gun owners wanting to be foster parents.
Two Michigan state senators have introduced a bill into the Michigan state Senate, that would protect the Second Amendment rights of foster parents. They say that no one should be forced to give up their constitutional rights to foster or adopt a child. They also pointed out that most such responsible adults wanting to foster and adopt are legal law-abiding citizens.
State Sens. Tom Casperson and Tonya Schuitmaker have introduced legislation focusing on the Second Amendment rights of foster parents.
A policy change by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) that took effect in 2015 requires all firearms legally possessed in foster homes be locked in a gun case or stored with a trigger-lock separate from ammunition.
Under this policy, firearms cannot be carried in a holster, even by someone who is licensed to carry a concealed weapon, or stored in any other safe manner.
“Adopting a child does not require you to give up your constitutionally guaranteed rights,” said Schuitmaker, R-Lawton. “Thousands of families across Michigan have figured out how to safely possess firearms in the privacy of their own homes without the government telling them how to do it.” …
Anti-American Democrats have been trying every underhanded measure possible to strip American citizens of their constitutional rights. People are losing their First, Second and Fourth Amendment rights. The federal government already stripped states of their Tenth Amendment rights. It’s time the American people stand up for their rights and demand to have them back or remove these anti-American politicians from office and replace them with people who defend the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
