An Indiana mother found herself on the the flip side of a smoking barrel after shooting and killing an intruder who attempted to break into her apartment on June 7.

WXIN reports:

The shooting occurred around 1:10 p.m. in the 2800 block of White Knight Boulevard near East 30th Street and Mitthoeffer Road.

Police say the mother heard someone breaking into her apartment. That woman then came face to face with the armed suspect, identified as 19-year-old Michael Hawkins, before she opened fire.

Investigators say Hawkins died inside the doorway of the apartment after being shot. Neighbors say while it’s sad the suspect got killed, they don’t blame the mother for using deadly force.

The mother and her family were shaken up but otherwise okay. Which is more than we can say for the thug that tried to break in!

Neighbors aren’t very happy about what happened, but they also aren’t upset with the mother either….and they shouldn’t be! They understand that she acted within her rights for self defense. If anything, they should be praising her!

Julius Radcliff stated, “I hate to see that it happened, but that’s what happens when you go into people’s home trying to take their stuff.”

Her neighbor, Janice Taylor, said, “You have to defend yourself. We have laws for that.”

This story just goes to show that we must always be prepared, even when you are lounging around the house in sweatpants. Always have your firearms within reach! You never know when the need may arise for you to bear arms!
