Some are wondering why the National Rifle Association has been silent on immigration issues – mainly dealing with illegal aliens and sanctuary locations. The highest concentration of illegal aliens in the nation is in the southwestern states, especially the four that border with Mexico. While they technically cannot vote, many are. Additionally, it’s liberals that are helping illegals in the southwestern states, and in fact, many western states. As this is allowed to continue, these states are becoming more and more liberal, progressive, anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment. Immigration issues in many western states are changing the political atmosphere from conservative, Republican, gun-friendly states to liberal, Democratic, gun-hating states. Therefore, immigration is an important part of maintaining our Second Amendment rights, which begs the question of why the NRA has remained so silent?
David Codrea writes [via ammoland.com]:
“GOP faces growing demographic nightmare in West,” The Hill’s National Correspondent Reid Wilson reported Monday. “Demographic change is slowly, but inevitably, moving Western states to the left.” Inevitably.
“And it could also spread to states with metropolitan areas experiencing significant Hispanic population growth such as Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida.”
That’s a drum far too few gun owner rights advocates have been beating or even acknowledging. More likely, especially with the major “gun lobby” groups, the response has been to ignore it, with an occasional deflection falling back on the “single issue” excuse…
Is the NRA losing their influence, their directive and their lobbying powers? Are they succumbing to the pressures of the liberal left? Are they being infiltrated by liberals who don’t want to rock the boat on such explosive issues like immigration? If they truly want to continue to defend the Second Amendment gun rights of the American people, the NRA needs to start speaking out against illegal immigration and sanctuary cities, counties and states.
