The Police Department in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City Police have begun to work together in order to educate citizens on the dangers of fake guns.

Every year people are killed by police for wielding look-alike firearms.

In a new lesson titled, “Your Life Depends on Your Decisions,” local police are hoping to help avoid a tragedy involving look-alike Airsoft or BB guns.

The ultimate goal of this lesson is to show teens and their parents just how hard it is to determine the difference between a real gun and a fake on. Officers often on have a split moment to differentiate between the two.

Andrew Gluba, the Albermarle County Police Department prevention specialist, stated, “This is an interactive course so it actually puts the people who happen to attend into the position of people who are getting to view these items in real time. It’s so that they can see the difficulties of it because it’s really impossible.”
