You would think that a school such as Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida would be ground zero for the changes necessary to keep our children safe.

After all, they were the site of one of the most horrific school shootings that our nation has ever seen.  And, worse still, we learned just how inept and crooked the school and the local police were during the aftermath of the tragedy.

Not only were there multiple squandered chances for police to confront shooter Nikolas Cruz during his rampage, but even in the days preceding the event after a local tipster called the FBI to proclaim that Cruz was a danger.

“See something, say something”, indeed.

Trending: BREAKING: Kavanaugh Accuser May NOT Show Up to Thursday Hearing (Details)

Unfortunately, it seems that Stoneman Douglas will not be the beacon of shining hope in the face of unknown dangers after all.

School safety advocate Hunter Pollack says Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School added a new weight room instead of metal detectors in the aftermath of the February 14, 2018, shooting that killed 17.

Pollack’s sister, Meadow, was one of the 17 fatalities.

Pollack spoke to Breitbart News on August 12, 2018, and said he was personally disgusted with the Broward County School Board. He explained his frustration, saying, “For example, they just built a new weight room, but denied to have metal detectors at the school’s entry point. When did having a weight room, and lifting weights, become more important than if your children will make it home at the end of the day?”

Pollack’s advocacy has been loud and clear during this trying time, and the people of Parkland, Florida would be wise to heed what this man has to say.

As we examine the issue of school safety in our modern world, there is no option in which we can say, for certain, that an active shooter would be stopped by anything less than a “good guy with a gun”.  As long as schools continue to ignore that fact, these things will continue to happen.
