Weaponized drones sound like something from a science fiction movie…..a really cool one. Only, it is no longer a contraption from the world of the Jetsons, but a device that is already here folks.
So here is the question:
Do Americans have the right to use a weaponized drone, according to the 2nd amendment?
Right now, many states are saying no. They believe the weapon MUST be handheld.
In 2012 on Fox News, Justice Antonin Scalia observed: “Obviously the [2nd] amendment does not apply to arms that cannot be hand-carried—it’s to keep and “bear”, so it doesn’t apply to cannons—but I suppose there are hand-held rocket launchers that can bring down airplanes, that will have to be decided.” Scalia’s comment provoked attorney Lawrence Rafferty to snark, “Do we draw the limit at briefcase nukes that can be carried in one’s hand?”
While I do see the concern of not having the firearm in your hand for use, I do think this is a very revolutionized idea. With the right precautions, I think the drones could be used for a good cause in the hands of licensed citizens.
