Have you ever an object placed in a press and then slowly squeezed, bit-by-bit? That is what many Democrats nationwide have been doing to law-abiding gun owners. The problem is, that while they continue to squeeze law-abiding citizens out of their gun rights, criminals just laugh and obtain their guns anyway, caring little for the law.

A pair of Democrats in California, from the San Diego area, are introducing a bill into the state legislature that would place more requirements on law-abiding citizens who want to obtain a concealed carry permit. Their proposal, while sounding good on the surface, won’t make concealed carry permit holders that much safer or more responsible.

(Fox 5 San Diego) – Two San Diego-area Democratic lawmakers Friday announced a bill to increase requirements for people seeking concealed-carry weapons permits in California.

Assemblyman Todd Gloria co-authored the bill with Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher. It would require concealed-carry permit applicants to complete a minimum of eight hours of firearm training and perform live-fire exercises in a firing range.

“Under current law in California, a person who has never even fired a gun or received proper training on how to safely handle one can receive a permit and carry a loaded firearm in public,” Gloria said. “This jeopardizes public safety and has to be addressed. My bill, AB 2103, ensures every person who receives a CCW permit has been through a necessary amount of training and can demonstrate proficiency in handling the weapon. Ultimately, this will help ensure these deadly weapons do not end up in the wrong hands.”

While I agree that everyone should know how to safely handle a gun before using one, this bill only requires a minimum of training, but like obtaining a driver’s license for the first, proving you can drive, doesn’t necessarily make you a safe or expert driver. This bill will make it harder for busy people to obtain a concealed carry permit so they can protect themselves as many will not be able to take time off of work for the required training. In the meantime, the only training criminals get is on the streets committing crimes.
