Actress Issa Rae of the HBO series Insecure recently sat down for an interview with Glamour. She literally said that if First Lady Melania Trump likes the show, she would have to cancel it.

For some reason, the left enjoys taking potshots at FLOTUS simply because she’s married to President Donald Trump.

The thing is, Melania just called Rae’s bluff.

From Chicago Tribune:

After recalling how good it felt to have a fan in the White House – that would be former first lady Michelle Obama – Rae imagined what it might be like to get a thumbs-up from Mrs. Trump.

“It bums me out that I will never have that feeling again of the first family (supporting) us so hard and getting us,” Rae said, remembering a time when Mrs. Obama gushed to the 33-year-old Hollywood heavyweight about the Season 2 finale of “Insecure,” currently in its third season on HBO. “If Melania (Trump) said that to me, I would be like, ‘Well, I guess it’s canceled. We’re not making this show. It’s not ours anymore.’ “

The comment seemed more tongue-in-cheek than anything. If you want to go deep, Rae could have been adding her signature deadpan to the larger issue of representation in Hollywood, and who “Insecure” – a coming-of-adult show about women of color, with a staff of mostly people of color – is for. Still, Rae’s quote hardly warranted an official response from Mrs. Trump’s team. But this is an East Wing that rarely lets anything go.

From Daily Caller:

Actress Issa Rae threatened to cancel her HBO show “Insecure” if Melania Trump liked the program, so the first lady’s office called her bluff.

On Wednesday, the spokesperson for the first lady’s office, Stephanie Grisham, responded, “Alert: FYI @IssaRae, @FLOTUS likes your show! @HBO @PageSix @glamourmag @theinquisitr.”

And there it is. Melania is a fan.

Now, what will Rae do? Will she stand by her words? Will she tell the network her hit show has to be canceled?

After seeing the tweet by the first lady’s spokeswoman, Rae responded with this zinger:

In other Melania news, FLOTUS joined other presidential descendants to plant trees at the White House.

From Fox News:

First lady Melania Trump was joined by descendants of past presidents Monday as she helped plant a sapling from an Eisenhower-era oak tree on the south grounds of the White House.

The 12-to-14-foot sapling came from the original Eisenhower oak that towers over an East Wing garden created by former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. It replaces a tree that was felled during a March windstorm and was removed by groundskeepers.

The first lady was assisted in the planting by Mary Jean Eisenhower, a granddaughter of the 34th president, and Richard Emory Gatchell, Jr., a fifth-generation grandson of President James Monroe.

“We’re honored to make a place here for another historical monument,” Mrs. Trump said. “It’s a very special day.”
