Are we just giving out awards to anyone and everyone these days? I let someone pull out in front of me in traffic today. Where is my award for that? Oh wait, that’s right. I’m not a snowflake and I don’t expect nor want participation trophies.
That is not the case for Chelsea Clinton though. She proudly accept awards for just about anything, even if it is not for something outstanding or special….Kind of like Hillary Clinton. I guess that apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Like her mother before her, Chelsea Clinton appears to be creating a cottage industry for herself in receiving random awards for her unparalleled contributions to society, scintillating takes on current events, and incredibly generous heart.
Before we claim that she’s done nothing to earn a major award, aside from sitting in a privileged position atop her family’s namesake foundation, or say that she has few actual commitments aside from spending her family’s money and attending a single board meeting for Expedia lest she forfeit the several hundred thousand dollars she earns in her honorary position, in this case, it appears Chelsea did do at least something to earn her award.
Which brings me to her latest “accomplishment” of handing out grapefruit to the city of New York. Yep. For one single day, she helped City Harvest pick and package the citrus.
According to the Mail, “Clinton and staff from her family’s foundation packed 25,000lb of grapefruit to distribute to New York residents.”
The previous year, Chelsea and the Clinton Foundation packed sweet potatoes.
Don’t get me wrong here. I am not belittling the feeding of the hungry in any way whatsoever. However, simply getting your hands slightly dirty for one day out of the year to package fruit doesn’t exactly constitute an award. Correct me if I’m wrong…..but I’m not wrong.
