Is gun violence really a health epidemic – mental health – emotional health or even physical health?
A number of doctor groups are pushing for Congress and President Donald Trump to formally declare gun violence as a ‘national public health epidemic’ and they want a line item added to the national spending bill that would funnel lots of taxpayer money to the CDC so that they could research the public health epidemic, much like they have been doing on the opioid and flu epidemics.
It’s ironic that when Republicans began talking about doing more for mental health, Democrats, who have been calling for more help with mental health are criticizing Republicans claiming they are distracting from the real issue of gun control.
(Washington Examiner) – Several doctors groups are calling on Congress and President Trump to take measures against gun violence that include restricting access to firearms that have “features designed to increase their rapid and extended killing capacity.”
The groups’ list of other requests includes labeling gun violence “a national public health epidemic” and including a line item in the omnibus spending bill allowing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to research gun violence.
“The families of the victims in Parkland and all those whose lives have been impacted by daily acts of gun violence deserve more than our thoughts and prayers,” they wrote of the mass shooting at a Florida high school Wednesday. “They need action from the highest levels of our government to stop this epidemic of gun violence now.” …
Last week’s school shooting definitely involved mental health, but the real underlying reason America is seeing so much gun violence, school and mass shootings has more to do with the spiritual health of America. Our nation is spiritually bankrupt ever since they removed God, Jesus and the Bible from as many aspects of life as possible and until this issue is addressed and resolved by returning to God and His statutes, we will continue to see more and more violence.
