In Minneapolis, Minnesota one of the Democrat candidates for Mayor has an interesting idea on how to make the city less violent.

He wants to disarm the police force.

Democrat State Rep. Raymond Dehn says that “crime is not a product of individual morality but the consequence of scarcity in our society. We must divest resources, disarm officers, and dismantle the inherent violence of our criminal justice system which continues to uphold white supremacy. Our approach to public safety must reflect a belief that our communities are safer when they have housing, clean air and water, access to education and employment, and quality healthcare.”

If you’re having a hard time understanding how disarming the police and believing that communities are safer when everything is wonderful would help to stem the tide of crime in Minneapolis today, your’e not alone.

Any rational person would read Dehn’s statement and wonder if the man isn’t a few fries short of a happy mean.

For instance, his statement on disarming the police comes just days after a minority Muslim police officer, killed an unarmed white woman… and yet, Dehn argues that the criminal justice system continues to “uphold white supremacy.”

He also says he thinks cops should have guns “sometimes”…

Dehn elaborated on his comments to the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

“We must divest resources, disarm officers, and dismantle the inherent violence of our criminal justice system,” Dehn said in a statement Friday.

‘All things on the table’

He later elaborated on what sounded like a call to take guns from cops, adding he is not advocating against police officers having access to weapons when they need them.

“Officers don’t need to carry guns on their person all the time,” Dehn said Tuesday. “Currently, officers carry all sorts of assault weapons in their cars. So why can’t one of those weapons be the side arm? It’s important that we begin to have a conversation, and I would say that all things are on the table.”

He acknowledged, however, that “we live in a culture where guns are pervasive. Cops carrying guns is part of a larger conversation about guns in our society,” Dehn said.

While Dehn might be crazy, he also seems to represent a large portion of Minnesota’s Democrat (Democratic Farmer Labor) Party.

Just last month he won the city-wide DFL convention straw poll of the major Mayoral candidates, meaning the loon has a real shot at being the next Mayor of Minneapolis.

This is the crazy face of the new Democrat Party.
