New York is a state run largely by anti-gun Democrats who care nothing about the constitutional rights of the people. Just a few years ago, it seems that not a single state lawmaker objected to the tyrannical ordinances imposed by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg tried to ban some soft drinks and even restrict the use of pain killers by doctors and hospitals.

Through the course of liberal anti-American laws, New York state has passed some of the stricter gun control laws in the nation and just passed another one.

Their latest anti-gun endeavor forbids anyone convicted of domestic violence to buy, own or possess a firearm.

(Statesman) – People convicted of domestic abuse in New York will be required to hand over their firearms to authorities, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday after state lawmakers passed legislation to update a law that required domestic abusers to surrender only their handguns.

Cuomo said the legislation will make New York “safer and stronger.”

“New York is once again leading the way to prevent gun violence, and with this common sense reform, break the inextricable link between gun violence and domestic violence,” Cuomo said.

“This fall, I pushed for new legislation that would mandate domestic abusers surrender their firearms. Thousands of you signed our petition.”

“Today, that truly life-saving legislation has become a reality, and our state is safer for it.” …

In addition to banning firearm possession of anyone convicted of domestic abuse, the new law also adds the conviction of a number of ‘serious’ misdemeanor crimes to the list of those not allowed to even touch a firearm. It seems hypocritical that while many Democrats have been fighting to all convicted felons to regain their rights, to have other Democrats taking one of those rights away from many who have only been convicted of certain misdemeanors.
