Former New York mayor and multi-billionaire Michael Bloomberg is the money behind the anti-gun group misnamed as Everytown for Gun Safety. With the help of Bloomberg’s money, Everytown backed Democrat Danny O’Connor in this Tuesday’s special election in Ohio. The election was to fill the vacated seat of form Rep. Pat Tiberi.

Opposing O’Connor was Troy Balderson, who was supported by President Donald Trump and the NRA.

After all of the precincts were counted, NRA backed Balderson held a narrow 1,700 vote lead over Bloomberg & Everytown backed O’Connor. While it seems that Balderson will be traveling to Washington DC, they still to count the absentee and provisional ballots.

Trending: Robert De Niro Thinks This Dem Senate Candidate Can Beat Trump In 2020

(Guns.com) – A special election on Tuesday to fill an open seat in the U.S. House from Ohio is leaning towards an National Rifle Association-endorsed Republican who narrowly bested his opponent in a hard-fought campaign.

In Ohio’s 12th District, former state lawmaker Troy Balderson beat Democratic contender Danny O’Connor by just over 1,700 votes to pick up a 50.3 percent margin with 100 percent of the precincts reporting. Pending the tally of outstanding provisional and absentee ballots as well as the prospect of an automatic recount, Balderson will fill the seat left open following the resignation of Republican U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi.

O’Connor was endorsed and supported by national gun control groups to include GiffordsEverytown and Moms Demand Action. “Danny is fighting to put the safety of Ohio communities ahead of the interests of the gun lobby in Washington DC,” said former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in her endorsement last month…

Even though it appears that Balderson defeated O’Connor, Democrats are still claiming victory because in 2016, Trump carried that congressional district by 12 points over Clinton. The narrow margin in this special election indicates that anti-Democrats are gaining support in the district, which may alter who sits in the House after the two face off again in November.
