In what could be considered one of the most timely incidents of 2018, the discussion over arming school personnel has been finally been proven as effective.
The horrific and tragic school shooting of Parkland, Florida last week reignited a number of debates within American society over the best way to protect our nation’s youth from ne’er do wells who look to commit atrocities within the confines of a our educational institutions.
Of course, the first concern is, and always has been, the concept of “gun free zones”, in which law-abiding adults find themselves helpless against the whims of an armed assailant. Like fish in a barrel, these adults have only hope and luck to keep themselves and their students safe from maniacs such as Nikolas Cruz and others.
The left’s wholehearted opposition to arming teachers and/or school staff has been directly responsible for dozens, possibly hundreds of deaths in recent years.
Do armed guards actually make schools safer? The left says no, but the facts say yes.
“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirms that a security guard at Whittier, California’s El Camino High School thwarted a mass shooting on Friday.
“CBS News reports the resource officer overheard a student talking about attacking the school just two days after 17 were shot and killed in Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
“Authorities were contacted about the ‘disgruntled student’ and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to his residence. LA County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida told AP that the deputies’ searched the home and found ‘multiple guns and ammunition.’”
What is even more profound for many is the realization that this occurred in California, a liberal haven whose consistent stance on guns has been the very antithesis of what is needed to keep our children safe.
Again, we are unlikely to see much of this story covered by the mainstream media, whose liberal bias has long been the basis for the democrats’ stranglehold in California, New York City, and other locales with detrimentally strict gun control laws.
