At this rate, we will have to explain to our grandchildren what American Football was, and how the National Football League imploded in on itself during the early 21st century.

The NFL has had more than a few rough patches over the course of the last few decades, with a number of star athletes finding themselves counted among society’s wicked.

There have been the cheaters, Brady and Belilchik, who will forever be bonded with Barry over in baseball, as the asterisk-deserving cretins that they are.

There have been the beaters, Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, Jonathan Dwyer…all of whom put their mighty man-paws on someone inappropriately.

And, as much as it pains me to even ponder this next guy, I would be remiss in not mentioning Falcon’s figure and heinous hombre Michael Vick, whose actions are beyond repentance.

The report also states in mid-April of 2007, Vick, Peace and Phillips hung approximately three dogs who did not perform well in a “rolling session,” which indicates the readiness of a dog to fight. According to the report, the three men hung the dogs “by placing a nylon cord over a 2 X 4 that was nailed to two trees located next to the big shed. They also drowned approximately three dogs by putting the dogs’ heads in a five gallon bucket of water.”

[Author’s unsolicited opinion: I really hope Michael Vick is soaking up the A/C here on earth, because he’ll be missing it in the next life.]

Now, to add to this laundry list of faulty footballers, Reuben Foster of the San Francisco 49er’s has found himself in the position of having to explain how he ruptured his girlfriend’s eardrum during an argument.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster was charged Thursday after he allegedly dragged his girlfriend by her hair, threw her out of the house and repeatedly punched her, authorities said.

Foster, 24, was charged with felony domestic violence following an incident that occurred on Feb. 11 with his live-in girlfriend, who authorities did not identify. The victim flagged down a stranger’s car driving on Shannon Road in Los Gatos, Calif., and had the driver call 911.

“The victim told responding sheriff’s deputies and Los Gatos police that Foster dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house, and punched her in the head 8 to 10 times,” Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office said in a news release.

The 28-year-old woman was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries that included bruises and a ruptured eardrum.

This comes only a season removed from the 49er’s stint with Colin Kaepernick, that started with the young athlete playing second fiddle at quarterback, and ended with this “role model” insinuating that police were “pigs” and that our nation’s flag should not be respected.

At least now I know who not to root for this year.
